Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao said the party would cancel the Future City project if it returned to power in Telangana.
During his US tour, Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government was using the Future City project for real estate business.
He said the BRS would restore the earlier Pharma City project after returning to office.
According to him, Pharma City would create large-scale employment opportunities for Telangana youth.
Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government stalled the project because it feared political credit would go to the BRS.
Future City project triggers political clash
Meanwhile, Medak MP Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao strongly reacted to Harish Rao’s remarks.
He said the area should not become only a Pharma City or Future City.
Instead, he said the region should develop as a “Farmers City”.
Raghunandan Rao accused both the Congress and BRS of fighting over project names for political mileage.
He questioned why the BRS failed to complete even one company project during its 10-year rule.
The BJP leader said the Centre had earlier granted environmental clearances to attract investments.
He added that the approvals would also improve employment opportunities in the region.
Raghunandan Rao said the BJP would first develop the area as a Farmers City if it came to power in Telangana.
Political tensions over land pooling and development plans around the project area have intensified in recent weeks.
