Hyderabad: IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu on Friday accused the BRS of trying to undermine the Future City project and discourage investments in Telangana. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Sridhar Babu said it was “amusing” that a party with no political future had commented on the Future City project.
The minister made the remarks while responding to supplementary questions concerning investments in the state. He accused the opposition party of creating fear among industrialists and prospective investors.
According to Sridhar Babu, such efforts discouraged fresh investment and affected employment opportunities for local youth. He contrasted the Congress government’s industrial strategy with the approach adopted by the previous BRS administration.
Future City project debate sparks attack on BRS
Sridhar Babu said the previous BRS government had proposed high-pollution “Red Category” units under its Pharma City initiative. In contrast, he said the Congress government had committed itself to developing eco-friendly Green Pharma hubs.
The minister also outlined administrative reforms aimed at attracting industries and improving the investment environment. He said the government would introduce enhanced Ease of Doing Business policies.
Moreover, the state would examine special incentives for enterprises investing in rare and niche sectors. Sridhar Babu said these measures formed part of the government’s broader industrial roadmap. He also highlighted Telangana’s dedicated MSME Policy. According to the minister, it was the first policy of its kind in the country.
The policy was designed to provide comprehensive financial concessions and growth support to smaller enterprises. Meanwhile, the government had also prepared an action plan to promote balanced industrial growth across Telangana.
Under the plan, industrial corridors would expand into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities across the state. The government would particularly prioritise export-oriented sectors while pursuing this regional industrial expansion.
Sridhar Babu also said the government had established a mechanism to monitor every signed Memorandum of Understanding. The system would track the agreements to ensure their actual implementation on the ground.
He contrasted the monitoring mechanism with previous investment proposals that, according to him, had remained only on paper. The minister said the government intended to convert signed agreements into operational investments.
The remarks came as Sridhar Babu defended the government’s investment strategy and the Future City project in the Assembly. He also accused the BRS of obstructing efforts to attract industries and generate employment for Telangana youth.
