Hyderabad: GHMC heatwave preparedness measures kicked in across the city as officials rolled out a comprehensive plan to tackle rising temperatures and protect public health.
Officials said the civic body initiated field-level interventions to minimise heat-related risks. The plan focuses on hydration, medical readiness, awareness, and worker safety.
As part of the initiative, GHMC set up “Chalivendram” drinking water points across high-footfall areas. Additionally, teams increased cooling arrangements at public shelters and busy pedestrian zones.

Authorities strengthened coordination with Urban Primary Health Centres and Basti Dawakhanas. Meanwhile, officials earmarked hospital beds for heat-related illnesses and launched a toll-free helpline for emergency support and teleconsultation.
To improve awareness, GHMC displayed heatwave alerts based on IMD data at major traffic junctions. In addition, the civic body launched multimedia campaigns across official platforms to inform citizens.
Officials focused on outdoor workers and vulnerable groups. Further, teams conducted medical camps and stationed ambulances at major worksites. They also distributed essential resources to support labourers and the urban poor.
GHMC advised citizens to stay hydrated and avoid exposure during peak afternoon hours. At the same time, officials urged people to monitor the health of elderly individuals and children.
Authorities said anyone experiencing symptoms such as dizziness or headaches should seek immediate medical attention at nearby health centres.
