Hyderabad: The Telangana Food Safety Department detected food safety violations at a Big Basket warehouse in Kompally during an inspection.
A flying squad led by the Commissioner of Food Safety inspected on April 18 at M/s Supermarket Grocery Stores Supplies Pvt Ltd. The team identified multiple lapses in licensing, hygiene, and handling practices.
Officials found that the warehouse operated 22 transport vehicles without including “Transport” in its licence scope. In addition, they flagged unhygienic and rusty vehicles that violated prescribed safety norms.

The team also noticed pigeon droppings and cobwebs inside the warehouse. Moreover, workers handled vegetables in unclean conditions.
As part of enforcement action, officials collected samples of chicken and fish on suspicion of contamination. They also collected a sample of institutional tamarind packed by M/s Raja Rajeshwari Food Processors.
Officials suspected tampering with the labels on the tamarind product, including possible alteration of expiry dates and relabelling. Authorities are analysing the collected samples.
