Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday deferred its verdict in the Danam Nagender disqualification case to Friday after concluding arguments on petitions filed against the Khairatabad MLA. The petitions sought Nagender’s disqualification under the anti-defection law. He had won the Khairatabad Assembly constituency on a BRS ticket in the 2023 Telangana elections.
Nagender subsequently joined the ruling Congress. He later contested the Secunderabad Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate. The High Court bench had completed hearing arguments from the parties in the case. However, it adjourned the pronouncement of its verdict until Friday.
Danam Nagender disqualification petitions challenged Speaker order
BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy and BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy had separately sought action against Nagender. Both legislators approached the Telangana Assembly Speaker seeking his disqualification.
The Speaker’s tribunal subsequently dismissed the petitions. It held that Nagender had not legally attracted the provisions of the anti-defection law. Following that decision, the petitioners moved the Telangana High Court and challenged the Speaker’s ruling.
The Danam Nagender disqualification dispute then came before the High Court for adjudication. The court heard arguments from both sides before reserving the matter for its verdict.
Danam Nagender disqualification case set for Friday
The case centred on the petitions seeking action against Nagender after his move from the BRS to the Congress. His political affiliation and subsequent contest as a Congress Lok Sabha candidate formed the background to the disqualification proceedings.
The High Court had concluded the hearing on the challenges to the Speaker’s decision. Nevertheless, the bench deferred its verdict again on Wednesday. The Danam Nagender disqualification case will now return to focus on Friday, when the court is scheduled to pronounce its verdict.
