Amrapali’s cadre allocation dispute: Telangana HC reserves verdict

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court reserved its verdict on IAS officer Amrapali’s petition challenging the Centre’s decision to allocate her to the Andhra Pradesh cadre. A division bench heard arguments in Amrapali’s cadre allocation dispute before reserving its judgment.

The case concerned the allocation of the IAS officer between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana following the bifurcation of the erstwhile undivided state. Earlier, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) had ruled in Amrapali’s favour and directed her allocation to the Telangana cadre.

The tribunal had also set aside the Centre’s proceedings assigning her to Andhra Pradesh. However, the Telangana High Court subsequently stayed the tribunal’s order, leading to further proceedings in the matter.

Amrapali’s cadre allocation dispute followed CAT ruling

Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, authorities initially allocated Amrapali to the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Subsequently, the Centre issued directions to the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana concerning her allocation to the Telangana cadre.

Amrapali challenged the Centre’s orders before the Central Administrative Tribunal, seeking relief over her cadre allocation. The CAT accepted her challenge and overturned the proceedings through which the Centre had assigned her to Andhra Pradesh.

It also directed the authorities to allocate her to Telangana, granting relief to the IAS officer. However, the matter subsequently reached the Telangana High Court, which stayed the tribunal’s decision.

Following the interim order, Amrapali approached the High Court again to challenge the decision concerning her cadre allocation. The division bench considered arguments relating to the Centre’s orders and the tribunal’s ruling. After hearing the submissions, the bench reserved its verdict in Amrapali’s cadre allocation dispute.
