Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court decision upholding the Danam Nagender disqualification. The Supreme Court dismissed Nagender’s petition challenging the Telangana High Court judgment that disqualified him under the anti-defection law. A three-judge bench found no ground to interfere with the High Court’s decision.
Nagender won the Khairatabad Assembly constituency on a BRS ticket in 2023. He later joined the Congress and contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Secunderabad as its candidate.
Reacting to the judgment, KTR described it as a direct blow to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He also accused the Congress leadership of trying to “steal a mandate through defections.” KTR further alleged that the party had sought to protect defecting lawmakers through the Legislative Assembly Speaker’s office.
Danam Nagender disqualification draws KTR reaction
KTR also referred to the Khairatabad constituency while reacting to the Danam Nagender disqualification. “The people of Khairatabad will soon give their verdict on three years of betrayal, broken promises, and misrule,” he said.
The High Court had declared the Khairatabad Assembly seat vacant after disqualifying Nagender. It held that his disqualification took effect from April 23, 2024. Meanwhile, KTR expressed confidence that other defection cases would produce similar legal outcomes. “One wicket down — more to follow soon,” he said.
