Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar issued a stern warning against the use and sale of banned Chinese manja after the death of a five-year-old girl in the city.
Reacting on X, Sajjanar said the incident deeply disturbed him. According to him, the child had no understanding of the danger around her. At the time of the accident, she was seated on the front seat of her father’s motorcycle and was returning home happily.
Suddenly, tragedy struck in the form of Chinese manja. The sharp kite string wrapped tightly around the girl’s neck and slit her throat. As a result, Sajjanar questioned who should take responsibility for the unbearable pain suffered by the father.
He pointed out that Sankranti was meant to spread joy and togetherness. Instead, reckless use of Chinese manja turned a festival moment into lifelong grief for one family.
Chinese manja is a deadly weapon, not a harmless thread
Warning the public, Sajjanar said Chinese manja was not an ordinary thread. Rather, he described it as a sharp blade hanging in the air. Therefore, he cautioned that it posed a serious threat to pedestrians and motorists alike.
Appealing to citizens, he urged people not to use plastic or nylon manja under any circumstances. Moreover, he advised parents not to place such dangerous material in the hands of children.
At the same time, the Police Commissioner issued a clear warning to traders and users. He said the police would not tolerate the sale or use of banned manja. Consequently, strict legal action would follow against anyone found violating the law.
Sajjanar made it clear that no one would receive special treatment. Whether sellers or users, he said, everyone would face action if found responsible.
