Chairman Gutta praises Kanti Velugu during Council session

Hyderabad: An interesting development took place in the Telangana Legislative Council on Saturday. Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy praised the Kanti Velugu scheme during a discussion on strengthening rural healthcare.

The discussion began when BRS MLC Takkellapalli Ravinder Rao raised a question. He asked whether the government planned to train and certify RMP and PMP practitioners. He said such steps could strengthen healthcare services in rural areas.

While Medical and Health Minister Damodara Rajanarsimha was replying, the Chairman intervened. He recalled the Kanti Velugu programme implemented during the previous BRS government.

Gutta Sukhender Reddy said the government organised eye camps in every village. Doctors conducted eye tests on the spot and distributed free spectacles immediately. He said officials delivered special spectacles directly to beneficiaries’ homes when required.

He added that authorities referred patients needing surgery to designated eye hospitals. They followed a serial system to ensure timely treatment and vision restoration.

The Chairman’s remarks praising Kanti Velugu reportedly caused some discomfort among Congress members present in the House.
