Hyderabad: Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government was providing Indiramma houses to all eligible beneficiaries and would sanction a fresh phase across the state in March–April next year. He said the government was implementing welfare schemes with commitment, instead of limiting assurances to election periods.
Replying during Question Hour in the Assembly, Ponguleti said the previous BRS government distributed houses selectively. According to him, earlier administrations linked housing to political loyalty. However, the present government ensured Indiramma houses reached all poor families.
Indiramma houses, pending projects under Cabinet review
Addressing stalled projects, Ponguleti said the government released funds to complete unfinished double-bedroom houses. At Vasalamarri, adopted earlier by former Chief Minister KCR, the government completed pending double-bedroom houses. He added that officials used the ₹5 lakh allocation per Indiramma house to revive incomplete projects.
Across the state, nearly 12,000 double-bedroom houses remained incomplete, he said. On this issue, the Cabinet would discuss the matter and take a positive decision. In major urban areas, the government would also construct Indiramma houses on government land for landless poor families.
Regarding Singareni regions, Ponguleti said patta distribution under GO 76 remained pending. The Cabinet would take up the issue in its next meeting. After the Assembly session, officials would meet public representatives and the Housing Secretary to resolve L-1, L-2 and L-3 issues.
In tribal areas, the government sanctioned 12,500 Indiramma houses, Ponguleti said. Chenchu families received houses in the first phase itself. He added that the government allocated ₹744 crore to complete 36,000 houses across 133 colonies. He accused the previous BRS government of misleading people over double-bedroom houses.
