Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar questioned the November 6 deadline for graduate voter registration ahead of the upcoming MLC elections. He cited the November 20 publication date for the final electoral roll under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
A BRS delegation led by MLC L. Ramana met Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy on Tuesday. The delegation submitted a representation raising concerns over the registration schedule and alleged lapses in the SIR exercise in Telangana.
Sravan said the deadline for submitting Form-18 had been fixed for November 6. However, the final electoral roll under the SIR process was scheduled for publication on November 20.
He argued that the difference between the two dates could create difficulties for voters. In particular, voters could face problems identifying polling stations, part numbers and other electoral details before publication of the final roll.
Graduate voter registration deadline raised with CEO
According to Sravan, the CEO responded positively to the concerns raised by the delegation. He said the matter would be referred to the Election Commission in Delhi. Sravan also said efforts would be made to seek an extension of the graduate voter registration deadline.
The BRS leader separately alleged that public awareness about the SIR process had been inadequate. As a result, he said eligible voters could be left out of the electoral rolls. Sravan also criticised the state government over participation levels in the revision exercise. He urged the Election Commission to ensure that the process remained transparent and voter-friendly.
