Hyderabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Tuesday caught a Grama Paripalana Officer and another person in an ₹80,000 bribe trap in Mancherial district. The ACB’s Adilabad Range conducted the operation at Peddapeta in Bheemini mandal. The case involved an alleged bribe demand of ₹1.30 lakh.
According to the ACB, GPO Durga Prasad demanded ₹1.30 lakh from the complainant for extending an official favour. The alleged favour concerned validation of a land transfer and issuance of Patta Passbooks. The ACB said the complainant was asked to pay the alleged bribe in two instalments.
₹80,000 bribe trap led to two arrests
During the ₹80,000 bribe trap, the first instalment was allegedly handed over to Pothu Rajender. He was accompanying the GPO at the time, according to the ACB. Officials subsequently recovered the tainted cash from Rajender. A chemical test conducted on his hands also returned a positive result.
The ACB arrested Durga Prasad and Rajender following the trap. Officials later produced both accused before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Karimnagar for judicial remand.
The ACB continued its investigation into the alleged ₹1.30 lakh bribe demand and the ₹80,000 bribe trap. Authorities withheld the complainant’s details for security reasons.
