Hyderabad: Authorities temporarily closed Bogatha Waterfall in Mulugu district after continuous heavy rain triggered a sharp rise in floodwaters. Officials said the conditions had made the tourist destination unsafe for visitors.
Heavy rain continued across northern Telangana under the influence of a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal. Meanwhile, rain lashed the surrounding forest for nearly 10 hours. Floodwater from upstream areas surged into the waterfall and intensified the flow.
The Forest Department announced the temporary closure of the tourist site at Cheekupalli in Wazeedu mandal. Officials said they took the decision to protect tourists.
Bogatha Waterfall closed until floodwaters recede
According to officials, the strong current increased the risk of rockfalls. It also raised the possibility of sudden surges in water levels. Therefore, they urged tourists not to visit the waterfall until conditions improved.
Additionally, officials tightened security around the waterfall to prevent untoward incidents. They asked visitors to follow the instructions of the police and Forest Department. Tourists should avoid the area until floodwaters recede and authorities restore normal access.
