Hyderabad: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar targeted Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over the Kaleshwaram project, alleging that he reversed his earlier stand.
Speaking in Karimnagar, Sanjay said Revanth Reddy had earlier termed the project ineffective. However, he now appeared to have changed his position. Earlier allegations pointed to a Rs 1 lakh crore scam. In contrast, a later letter to the CBI mentioned only Rs 9,000 crore. He questioned the basis for seeking a probe without clear figures.
On costs, Sanjay raised concerns over equipment procurement. Each motor used in lift irrigation cost about Rs 300 crore, he said. Yet authorities spent nearly Rs 1,600 crore to source them from abroad. He demanded that agencies bring out the full extent of alleged corruption.
Bandi Sanjay on Kaleshwaram raises accountability questions
Sanjay asked whether the state had acted against any member of K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s family in various cases. He alleged that the project had become a funding source for both BRS and Congress.
On national issues, he criticised the Congress over the women’s reservation bill. Blocking the legislation caused injustice to women, he said. He also argued that opposition to delimitation affected southern states.
In addition, he questioned whether giving positions to leaders such as Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi alone would ensure women’s development.
Finally, Bandi Sanjay on Kaleshwaram reiterated that political accountability must be ensured. He said public reactions reflected dissatisfaction with the language used by political leaders. He added that alliances appeared selective and questioned why Congress and BRS could align but not with the BJP.
