Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar wrote a letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, urging him to check allies’ remarks on Telangana statehood.
Extending birthday wishes on his 75th birthday, Prabhakar said he wrote the letter as a Telangana activist and former Member of Parliament. As a senior leader, Naidu was aware of the historical developments that led to Telangana’s formation, he noted.
Recalling the movement, Prabhakar said people faced discrimination in water, funds, and employment. Protests, sacrifices, and sustained struggles eventually led to Telangana’s formation in 2014 through a constitutional process approved by Parliament and the President.
Ponnam Prabhakar letter raises concerns over remarks on Telangana
Prabhakar said both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh progressed separately while maintaining social and cultural ties. People from both states continue to interact freely and maintain relationships, he added.
However, recent remarks by leaders from alliance parties, including the BJP and Jana Sena, drew concern. According to him, comments suggesting Telangana’s formation was improper could trigger unnecessary tensions between people of the two states.
Referring to remarks by Tejasvi Surya and Pawan Kalyan, he said such statements could disturb public sentiment. Earlier comments by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on bifurcation also caused concern, he added.
Urging restraint, Prabhakar asked Naidu to advise alliance partners to avoid such remarks. He also sought steps to address statements made in Parliament on state bifurcation.
He said both states should move forward with cooperation and mutual respect. The Ponnam Prabhakar letter called for preventing statements that could create divisions between the two states.
