Ameenpur opium seizure leads to arrest of interstate peddler

Hyderabad: The Ameenpur police arrested an interstate drug peddler and two alleged consumers in an Ameenpur opium seizure and seized 2.7 kilograms of opium along with Rs 50,000 in cash.

The arrests followed a tip-off received on February 20, 2026, at about 8 am. Police learnt that a man was travelling from Rajasthan with opium. He was on his way to a tiles shop in Ameenpur, Cyberabad, to sell the narcotic substance.

Immediately after receiving the information, teams from Ameenpur Police Station and the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Serilingampally Zone moved to the spot. They intercepted the suspect near the identified location. Officers caught Vishnoi Heta Ram, 50, a native of Pali district in Rajasthan, and recovered 2.7 kg of opium from him.

Soon after, two men arrived at the spot to buy the contraband. Police detained them on the scene. They identified the duo as Bagdaram, 56, from Rajasthan, and Godara Subhash, 21, who stays in Ameenpur and hails from Barmer district in Rajasthan.

Police said the Ameenpur opium seizure resulted from coordinated field surveillance and timely intervention. Senior officers supervised the operation. DCP Serilingampally Zone Ch. Srinivas and DCP SOT Shoban Kumar oversaw the action, while Additional DCP N. Uday Reddy guided the teams.

Opium falls under the list of prohibited narcotic drugs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The law prescribes stringent punishment for possession, transport and sale. Investigators are now examining the supply chain and possible distribution links in the case.

Meanwhile, police urged citizens to share information about drug activity with the nearest police station. They also asked the public to use the toll-free helpline 1908 or contact the EAGLE TG Control Room at 8712671111. In addition, officials called on parents, teachers and community leaders to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse.
