Hyderabad: Government Whip Aadi Srinivas on Tuesday alleged that Telangana BJP president Ramchander Rao holds an anti-Backward Classes stance, accusing him of speaking against BC reservations despite publicly endorsing them within the state.
Addressing media at Gandhi Bhavan, Srinivas criticised the BJP leader for taking a contradictory position in Delhi, saying, “They welcome BC reservations here, but change their tune once in Delhi.”
He said the BJP lacks moral ground to question Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s sincerity on BC rights. “We cleared the BC reservation bill in both Cabinet and Assembly. We’ve also conducted a thorough caste survey to back the 42% quota.”
Srinivas pointed to the Supreme Court’s own observation that reservations may be increased if supported by accurate data and noted that Tamil Nadu had already raised its quotas in the past.
He accused the BJP of using minority reservations as a decoy to sabotage BC interests. “It’s the Centre that must include BC reservations under the Ninth Schedule. That’s BJP MPs’ responsibility,” he said, urging Ramchander Rao to take up the matter directly with Prime Minister Modi and BJP chief J.P. Nadda.
He warned that targeting the state government instead of convincing their own party leadership would not be tolerated. “Telangana BCs are watching BJP’s double standards,” he said, and questioned the silence of BJP BC leaders like Etela Rajender and Dharmapuri Arvind. “If anyone works against 42% BC quota in local bodies, we will not tolerate it under any circumstances,” he added.
