Woman constable dies by suicide in Kazipet, second such incident in recent weeks

HYDERABAD: A woman constable allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself with a saree in the Kazipet Dargah area of Warangal district. The deceased has been identified as Archana, who had separated from her husband shortly after their marriage in 2022.

According to sources, Archana had been struggling with mental stress following her divorce. Her death comes just days after another woman constable, Neelam, reportedly died by suicide in Nallabanda Tanda due to distress over not being married.

These incidents have drawn attention to the growing mental health challenges faced by women personnel in the police force, particularly in relation to personal and professional pressures.

Authorities stressed the need to address mental health issues among female officers and called for improved access to counselling and support systems. They noted that such incidents underscore the urgency of ensuring the well-being of women in the force.

Police officials have launched an investigation into Archana’s death to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigations are also ongoing in Neelam’s case. Officials indicated that steps would be taken to support the welfare of women personnel in the department.
