Waqf Board inspector caught accepting bribe in Nalgonda

Hyderabad: A Waqf Board inspector in Nalgonda district was caught red-handed by officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a Rs.10,000 bribe, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Shaik Mahmood, was working as a Waqf Board inspector in the district. According to the ACB, he demanded the bribe from a complainant in exchange for submitting a favourable factual report to the Chief Executive Officer of the Waqf Board in Hyderabad.

The report was linked to the registration of Jaame Masjid Abubakar Siddiq Rahmatulla Alai property at Peddavoora in the records of the Waqf Board. ACB officials said the Waqf Board inspector sought undue financial benefit by misusing his official position.

ACB recovered cash from Waqf Board inspector

During the trap operation, ACB officials recovered the tainted cash from the possession of the accused. Investigators stated that the officer acted dishonestly and attempted to obtain an unlawful advantage while performing his official duties.

Following the operation, officials initiated legal proceedings against him. The accused was being produced before the Special Court for SPE & ACB Cases, Nampally, for judicial remand.

The ACB withheld the identity of the complainant for security reasons. Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway.
