Hyderabad: Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said yoga should not be viewed through a religious lens while addressing a large gathering at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad on International Yoga Day. The Venkaiah Naidu yoga remarks came during a yoga programme attended by public representatives, party leaders and yoga enthusiasts.
He described yoga as one of India’s greatest contributions to the world. He said it goes beyond physical exercise and promotes mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Venkaiah Naidu said linking yoga to any religion reflects a misunderstanding of its universal character.

Meanwhile, Venkaiah Naidu said yoga represents human consciousness and universal brotherhood. He added that the practice helps reduce mental stress and builds emotional strength. He also urged people to embrace a healthy lifestyle and remain connected with nature.
Further, he said India’s ancestors gifted the world a way of life that promotes both physical and mental wellness. BJP OBC Morcha national president and MP Dr K. Laxman also addressed the gathering.
He said the global recognition received by yoga is a matter of pride for India. He added that yoga remains an important part of the country’s ancient heritage. Additionally, BJP Telangana president Ramchander Rao said Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a key role in securing international recognition for yoga.
He noted that countries across the world now observe International Yoga Day and encourage people to practise yoga regularly. Ramchander Rao also said yoga can help address issues such as depression. He urged people of all age groups to make it part of their daily routine.
