Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao urged the Centre to expedite pending coal, fertilizer, railway and infrastructure projects during a meeting with Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Friday. He submitted a memorandum seeking intervention on eight key issues affecting the state.
Tummala requested ₹100 crore from Coal India’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds to develop Dr. Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. He sought support to develop the institution into a national-level research and educational centre. In response, Kishan Reddy spoke to Coal India’s managing director and responded positively to the request.
Telangana railway projects and coal allocation among key demands
Tummala sought coal supplies from the Mahanadi coalfields for the Yadadri Thermal Power Station. He said the allocation would help ensure uninterrupted power generation. In addition, he proposed allocating the Sattupalli Block-III coal mine to Singareni Collieries. He cited existing infrastructure, faster mining operations and lower environmental impact as reasons for the proposal.
The minister also raised concerns over technical disruptions at Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited. He warned that irregular urea production could affect supplies during the Rabi season. Therefore, he urged the Centre to coordinate with Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister J.P. Nadda to find a permanent solution. He also sought adequate urea allocations for Telangana.
Tummala further requested faster clearances for a proposed greenfield airport in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. According to him, the airport would improve connectivity and support industrial, commercial and tourism activities.
Turning to Telangana railway projects, the minister sought faster approvals for the Sathupalli–Kovvur and Penuballi–Kondapalli railway lines. He said these projects would improve the movement of agricultural and industrial goods. Moreover, stronger rail links with Andhra Pradesh could support investment and create employment opportunities.
Tummala asked the Union minister to prioritise the pending proposals and help resolve the state’s outstanding issues. The memorandum covered coal supplies, fertilizer availability, railway connectivity and infrastructure development.
