Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud launched a sharp attack on the BJP and BRS, accusing both parties of obstructing efforts to expand reservation benefits for Backward Classes (BCs).
In a post shared Monday, Goud questioned the BJP’s resistance to the inclusion of the 42% BC reservation Bill in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. “If inclusion is impossible, why did BJP legislators support the Bill in the Telangana Assembly only to withdraw at the national level?” he asked.
He alleged that the BJP leadership was hiding behind statements by its state president, calling it a sign of political cowardice. Goud warned that Congress would not hesitate to disrupt Parliament to defend the Bill and announced that Rahul Gandhi would raise the issue at upcoming OBC conclaves.
Targeting the BRS, he accused the party of diluting existing quotas and staging walkouts when BC issues were raised in the Assembly. He called on BC leaders statewide to reject both BJP and BRS, branding them as parties driven by caste privilege and political expediency.
Inviting them to join the Indian National Congress, Goud said, “Be part of a principled movement committed to dignity, justice, and social equity.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have, time and again, positioned themselves in opposition to the advancement of Backward Classes (BCs).
In Telangana, the BRS obstructed the ordinance; at the national level, the BJP opposed the Bill.
