Hyderabad: The Telangana government is considering a rice export incentive policy to promote exports and help farmers and rice millers access global and inter-state markets. Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the proposed initiative would reduce dependence on central procurement agencies and encourage value addition.
The minister announced the proposal while launching KCP Nutri’s Multi-Vitamin Rice range in Hyderabad. He described fortified rice as an important value-added product that could improve nutrition and create new market opportunities.
Rice export incentive policy targets global markets
Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana should explore markets beyond the state and the country. He noted that the Food Corporation of India procured rice primarily to support farmers and not for exports.
The minister said the government would support millers and businesses that complied with quality standards. He also assured genuine exporters that the government would facilitate the necessary permissions for expanding into new markets.
Moreover, he encouraged the rice industry to adopt innovative ideas and focus on products that addressed changing consumer preferences in domestic and international markets.
Rice export incentive policy backed by record procurement
The minister highlighted Telangana’s strong procurement performance during the recent Yasangi season. He said the state procured 81 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.
In comparison, he said neighbouring Andhra Pradesh procured 25 lakh metric tonnes despite being geographically larger.
Uttam Kumar Reddy urged entrepreneurs to target markets outside Telangana and take advantage of export opportunities. He reiterated that the government would support initiatives that promoted agricultural value addition and food processing.
The minister also welcomed the launch of the multi-vitamin rice product in Hyderabad and thanked the organisers for introducing a value-added rice product in the state.
