Telangana doubles marriage incentive for differently-abled couples to ₹2 lakh

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has increased the marriage incentive for couples with disabilities from ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh. Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar announced the decision on Saturday, calling it a landmark step toward dignity, stability, and inclusion. This major development comes as Telangana raises marriage aid for those in need.

He said the move reflects the Congress government’s focus on disability rights under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s leadership.

Funds to go directly to bride’s account

The revised incentive will be transferred directly to the bride’s bank account. Notably, marriage aid is being raised in Telangana through this updated program. The Department of Welfare of Women, Children, Persons with Disabilities, and Older Persons has issued the necessary orders.

The minister said the government reviewed previous assistance models and decided to act from a humanitarian and rights-based perspective. “Past governments offered only token help. We are addressing core issues with meaningful action,” he stated.

Support for inclusion and family security

Laxman Kumar explained that the incentive aims to encourage social acceptance of marriages between people with disabilities. In this context, Telangana is actively raising marriage aid to support inclusion. It also seeks to reduce stigma and support strong family systems.

So far, the government has expanded disability pensions, increased financial aid, and introduced several inclusive welfare schemes. These efforts, he said, position Telangana as a national model.

“This shows our commitment in action, not just in words,” the minister added.

He instructed the Director of Welfare for People with Disabilities, Older Persons, and Transgender Persons to oversee timely implementation.
