Telangana market yard modernisation to include digital payments, solar power and expanded storage

Hyderabad: Agriculture and Marketing Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao directed officials on Thursday to undertake market yard modernisation across Telangana. The initiative included digital management, solar power installations and an increase in storage capacity to two lakh metric tonnes.

During a review meeting with Marketing Department Director Rahul Raj at the State Secretariat, the minister outlined measures to improve agricultural market operations. He directed officials to introduce end-to-end digital systems covering vehicle entry, weighing, sales, financial transactions and payments.

Additionally, Nageswara Rao instructed the department to develop an online payment system for farmers. He said the system should improve transparency and prevent irregularities in market transactions.

Market yard modernisation plan due within 15 days

The minister directed officials to prepare and submit a comprehensive market yard modernisation plan within 15 days. During the meeting, officials informed him that solar power systems were being installed at 10 market yards across Telangana. They also outlined plans to extend solar installations to other markets in phases.

Meanwhile, Nageswara Rao emphasised the need to strengthen agricultural storage infrastructure to meet the requirements of farmers and market operations. He suggested adopting silo-based warehouses to make better use of available storage space and increase capacity.

The minister directed the department to raise its total storage capacity to two lakh metric tonnes. He also instructed officials to accelerate the recruitment of engineering personnel through the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) or Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU).

Market yard modernisation includes new and unused markets

As part of the proposed infrastructure improvements, Nageswara Rao directed officials to establish a new agricultural market at Aziznagar. He also called for the revival of unused integrated markets in Toopran, Gajwel, Suryapet and other locations.

The minister said these facilities should serve farmers and improve the use of existing market infrastructure. The proposed market yard modernisation measures covered digital transactions, renewable energy, storage expansion, engineering recruitment and the reopening of unused agricultural markets.
