Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi founder-president K. Kavitha announced plans for a Bathukamma Guinness record attempt next year. The proposed event will involve 2.5 lakh women in a large-scale celebration.
Kavitha made the announcement on Sunday at the Telangana Rakshana Sena office in Banjara Hills. She unveiled a poster and a CD featuring traditional Bathukamma songs brought out by Telangana Jagruthi.
She said earlier attempts to secure a Guinness World Record through large-scale Bathukamma celebrations had not succeeded. However, Telangana Jagruthi would now work towards achieving the record through a voluntary movement.
The proposed event will involve village-level Bathukamma and Kolatam committees. Kavitha said these committees would support preparations for the participation of 2.5 lakh women next year.
She also recalled earlier efforts to showcase Bathukamma’s cultural importance internationally. These included presenting the festival’s cultural significance at the Burj Khalifa.
For this year, Telangana Jagruthi plans to organise Bathukamma celebrations across all 33 districts. The organisation will also conduct programmes at select international locations.

Meanwhile, Kavitha appealed to women across Telangana to participate in the celebrations. She said the proposed initiative would seek to bring together women on a large scale for the record attempt.
The newly released CD contains traditional Bathukamma and chappatla songs. Kavitha said the collection was intended to preserve the region’s musical heritage for future generations.
The organisation’s proposed Bathukamma Guinness record attempt is planned for next year. The current year’s celebrations will instead focus on programmes across Telangana and selected locations abroad.
Kavitha said Telangana Jagruthi would lead the proposed record initiative as a voluntary movement. The organisation will rely on village-level Bathukamma and Kolatam committees to support the preparations.
The announcement comes as Telangana Jagruthi begins its current year’s Bathukamma programmes across the State. The organisation is also using traditional songs to promote and preserve the festival’s cultural heritage.
