Hyderabad: A Telangana heavy rain alert forecast widespread rainfall across the State from July 27 to July 30. The forecast attributed the expected spell to secondary convergence linked to a depression over central India.
According to the weather update, several areas in north, west and east Telangana could receive heavy rain during the four-day period. Moreover, cumulative rainfall could reach 100 mm to 120 mm at a few places in the identified high-impact zones.
The forecast described the rain spell as Telangana’s strongest rainfall event of the monsoon season until then. It also linked the recent weak monsoon conditions to the prevailing El Niño situation.
Telangana heavy rain alert covers several districts
The Telangana heavy rain alert placed several districts in north, west and east Telangana under the higher rainfall category. These areas could witness repeated spells of rain during the forecast period.
Meanwhile, districts placed in the moderate rainfall category were expected to receive regular showers for four days. Hyderabad also fell under this category and could experience moderate rain during the period.
However, Nalgonda and Yadadri-Bhongir districts were expected to receive the least rainfall. The forecast indicated mainly light rain in both districts, although isolated moderate showers could occur.
The weather system’s secondary convergence was expected to draw moisture into several parts of Telangana. As a result, rainfall activity could increase across districts that had earlier recorded weaker monsoon conditions.
Telangana heavy rain alert could support farming
The forecast said the rainfall spell could significantly support agricultural activity across Telangana. Farmers had faced concerns over the El Niño effect and uneven monsoon rainfall.
Therefore, widespread rain could improve soil moisture and help ongoing farm operations. The expected showers could also support cultivation in areas that had experienced dry conditions.
However, the rainfall distribution was expected to remain uneven. Northern, western and eastern districts could receive the highest totals, while Nalgonda and Yadadri-Bhongir could record lower amounts.
