Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to bear the additional Haj travel burden on pilgrims following the rise in travel costs linked to the situation in West Asia.
A large number of pilgrims from Telangana travel to Mecca every year for Haj. This year, nearly 7,000 people registered for the pilgrimage.
The increase in fuel prices after tensions involving Iran and the United States affected Haj travel expenses. As a result, the financial burden on pilgrims increased significantly.
Many Muslim families save money for years with the hope of performing Haj at least once in their lifetime. They usually depend entirely on their savings to undertake the pilgrimage.
Haj travel burden rises after fuel price increase
Against this backdrop, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy decided that the state government would bear the additional Haj travel burden on pilgrims from Telangana.
The decision came amid concerns that rising expenses could affect pilgrims preparing for this year’s Haj journey.
Officials are expected to work out the details of the government support for Haj pilgrims in the coming days.
