Hyderabad: Telangana BJP State President N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday sought Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla’s intervention for the immediate release of nearly Rs 15,000 crore in Telangana fee reimbursement dues.
A BJP delegation led by Rao met the Governor at Lok Bhavan and submitted a memorandum on the long-pending issue. The party claimed that delays in clearing the arrears had affected nearly 40 lakh students across Telangana.
Rao said students graduating from private degree, engineering and pharmacy colleges faced uncertainty because of the pending reimbursements. According to him, institutions were unable to issue certificates to students due to the unpaid dues.
He also claimed that several colleges faced a financial crisis. Consequently, some institutions were struggling to pay full salaries to their teaching staff.
Telangana fee reimbursement dues raised with Governor
Rao criticised the Congress government over the Telangana fee reimbursement dues and accused it of neglecting the education system.
He said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held the Education portfolio but had failed to resolve the issue. Moreover, Rao demanded that the government dedicate at least one full day of the ongoing Assembly session to discuss fee reimbursement.
The BJP leader also accused the Congress and BRS of diverting attention from the issue. In addition, he demanded the withdrawal of cases registered against BJP and BJYM activists who had participated in recent protests.
Rao said the BJP would wait for the government’s response following the Governor’s intervention. However, he warned that the party would intensify its agitation statewide along with students if the issue remained unresolved.
Later, Rao and other BJP leaders visited Srihari Hospital at Lakdikapul. They met Jangaon district BJP president Chowda Ramesh, who was undergoing treatment there.
Ramesh had sustained injuries in a police lathi-charge during the Chalo Assembly rally.
