Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao accused the Congress and BRS of pursuing minority politics for electoral gains while claiming that the Narendra Modi-led Central Government focused on minority welfare and empowerment.
Rao made the allegations at the BJP Minority Morcha State Executive Committee meeting at the party’s Mahabubnagar district office on Saturday.
He said the Modi Government followed the principles of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” and “Appeasement for none, Justice for all”.
According to Rao, minorities account for around 12 to 15 per cent of the country’s population. However, he claimed their representation among beneficiaries of several Central welfare schemes was considerably higher.
He cited PM Mudra, Jan Dhan and Ujjwala among the schemes. Rao also referred to scholarships provided to minority students across the country.
The BJP leader accused the Congress of pursuing divisive politics. He also alleged that the BRS had adopted an appeasement policy towards Muslims.
Minority politics and allegations against MIM MLC
Rao also raised allegations of sexual harassment involving MIM MLC Mirza Rehmat Baig. He demanded strict legal action and an impartial investigation into the allegations.
The BJP state president questioned the Congress and BRS over their alleged silence on the matter. He sought a clear explanation of their positions on the issue.
Rao said suspending the MLC from the party would not be sufficient. Instead, he called for a comprehensive probe into the allegations and past incidents.
He said the investigation should ensure justice for the alleged victim. The BJP leader linked the demand to his broader criticism of minority politics and political responses to issues involving minority leaders.
Rao also referred to the Telangana Liberation Struggle. He said Swami Ramananda Tirtha, P.V. Narasimha Rao, Vandemataram Ramachandra Rao and Shoaibullah Khan had fought against Nizam rule in the name of patriotism.
He said their role formed part of the historical political context of Telangana.
Local MP D.K. Aruna attended the meeting. BJP leaders also discussed organisational strengthening and future action plans.
The party’s Minority Morcha executive committee meeting concluded with discussions on organisational activities and upcoming programmes.
