Harish Rao calls for Singareni workers’ meeting in Ramagundam

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS Legislature Party Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao urged Singareni workers and residents of coal belt areas to attend the “Singareni Karmikula Garjana” in Ramagundam on October 14.

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao will attend the meeting as the chief guest, Harish Rao said. He made the appeal after meeting representatives of the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham and public representatives from Singareni areas at Telangana Bhavan.

Harish Rao alleged that Singareni Collieries Company Limited had faced several problems since the Congress government came to power. He said the issues had affected workers as well as officers.

According to Rao, even officials had taken to the roads to protest over their concerns. He said the main demands included declaring Singareni’s profits and paying workers their rightful share.

The demands also included dependent jobs for eligible candidates through medical boards. Rao called for immediate Singareni elections and clearance of pending payments.

Singareni workers seek profit share and pending payments

Meanwhile, Rao said Singareni had traditionally announced profits and paid workers their share before Dussehra. With the festival approaching, he alleged that the government had neither declared the company’s profits nor announced the workers’ share.

He questioned the decline in Singareni’s reported profits. Rao said the company earned ₹2,022 crore in 2022–23, ₹4,712 crore in 2023–24 and ₹6,394 crore in 2024–25.

The profit for the current financial year has not yet been declared, he said. Based on information available with the BRS, Rao claimed it might not cross ₹1,800 crore.

Rao attributed the alleged decline to delays in tenders, the introduction of the Site Visit Certificate condition and awarding contracts at higher prices. He also alleged that some works went to people close to the ruling party.

He demanded a proper inquiry into those allegations. Rao also claimed that coal production had declined from 70 million tonnes in 2023–24 to 58 million tonnes in 2025–26.

The BRS leader said the decline amounted to around 12 million tonnes. He asked Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka to explain why coal production had increased during the BRS government but declined after the Congress government took office.

The October 14 Ramagundam meeting will focus on issues concerning Singareni workers and the coal belt areas, according to Rao.
