Harish Rao slams Telangana government over TGSRTC festival fare hike

Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao on Sunday criticised the Telangana government for increasing TGSRTC bus fares across the State. He alleged that the hike had dampened the festive spirit and placed an additional financial burden on passengers.

In a post on X, Harish Rao said the reduction in regular bus services and the collection of higher fares in the name of festival specials were causing hardship to commuters. He pointed out that the fare from JBS to Karimnagar had increased from the regular ₹230 to ₹400. The fare from Mahabubnagar to MGBS, which normally costs ₹220, was being charged at more than ₹290, he alleged.

Allegation of festival boards on regular buses

Accusing the government of burdening passengers with steep fare hikes on routes across Telangana, Harish Rao claimed that the RTC had not increased the number of buses. He alleged that it was merely attaching festival special service boards to regular buses to charge higher fares.

He further alleged that the Congress government had increased RTC ticket fares five times during its three-year tenure. It was now imposing double fares on passengers in the name of festival special services, he alleged.
