Kavitha leads protest over Singareni workers’ issues

Hyderabad: TRS president Kalvakuntla Kavitha led a protest at Singareni Bhavan. She demanded immediate action on Singareni workers’ issues.

Meanwhile, HMS and TRS leaders and workers joined the protest. Together, they staged a dharna outside Singareni Bhavan.

The protesters demanded direct talks with the Singareni CMD. They said they would not end the agitation until he gave clear assurances on their demands.

Speaking at the dharna, Kavitha criticised the Singareni management and the government over several workers’ issues.

According to Kavitha, TRS and HMS jointly organised the protest to seek solutions. The agitation focused on problems faced by Singareni workers.

She alleged that the management was avoiding responsibility by withholding dependent jobs. In her view, these jobs were due to eligible workers’ families.

Kavitha stressed that dependent employment was a legal right of workers. Therefore, she said, it could not be treated as a concession from the management.

In addition, she demanded regular medical boards for workers. The boards, she said, should function for two days every month.

Furthermore, Kavitha demanded a 35 per cent bonus for workers from the company’s profits. She said the management should address their demands without delay.

At the same time, she alleged that workers faced harassment in the name of vigilance. According to her, the issue involved workers with alias names.

She called for an end to such alleged harassment. Moreover, Kavitha sought the immediate reinstatement of workers removed from their jobs in the past.

She alleged that some workers had faced harassment before their removal. As a result, she demanded that the management take them back into service.

Finally, Kavitha said the Singareni CMD should come to the protest site. He should hold direct talks with the workers and their representatives, she said.

She also demanded clear answers on all the major grievances raised during the dharna.
