Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) chairman and managing director N. Balaram on Tuesday announced that the company will sign agreements on December 18 for 4,900 MW of thermal and renewable energy projects in Odisha.
These preliminary agreements will be signed with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL), a government entity. One agreement covers a 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant near the Naini coal block, where SCCL has already launched mining operations.
Balaram said the plant will consist of three 800 MW units and will function as a captive power project. Since using coal from the Naini block is a regulatory requirement, the plant will directly utilise that resource. According to him, the project will benefit both Singareni and the state of Odisha.
Singareni power projects Odisha include major green energy push
In addition to the thermal facility, SCCL plans to implement a wide-ranging green energy initiative in Odisha. This includes:
- 1,000 MW of ground-mounted solar power
- 500 MW of floating solar projects
- 500 MW of wind power
- 500 MW of pumped storage power
A second agreement for these renewable energy projects will also be signed with IPICOL on the same day.
IPICOL officials welcomed the collaboration, stating that it would support Odisha’s growing power needs. They also noted that the partnership will lay the foundation for long-term cooperation between the two organisations.
Balaram confirmed that senior officers from both SCCL and IPICOL will be present during the signing ceremony on December 18.
