Siddipet district reorganisation row heats up in Telangana

Hyderabad: Siddipet district reorganisation triggered fresh political tension in Telangana after former minister Harish Rao warned against any move to remove the district.

Harish Rao said he would not stay silent if the government tried to cancel Siddipet district. According to him, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy should direct his anger at him, not at Siddipet people. He added that no plan could destroy the district’s identity.

Meanwhile, the remarks quickly raised political heat. As a result, the issue turned into a fresh point of conflict between the ruling party and the opposition.

Siddipet district reorganisation remarks draw Ponnam’s reply

In response, minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the government never stated it would remove Siddipet district. While speaking to the media in Husnabad, he said the opposition was spreading fear for political benefit.

Ponnam criticised the earlier district formation process. In his view, past governments created districts without proper planning or talks with opposition parties. He questioned why these issues were not raised earlier.

He also said officials forced Husnabad into Siddipet district. However, many residents want to stay in Karimnagar district. Therefore, he said boundary changes may happen in some areas based on public demand.

The minister said the Siddipet district reorganisation process would follow people’s wishes. At the same time, he asked Harish Rao not to turn the issue into politics. Ponnam said the government would move ahead carefully and openly.
