BRS leader Sidam Shankar, son killed in Mancherial road accident

Hyderabad: BRS leader and tribal rights activist Sidam Shankar and his 12-year-old son Sagar died in a road accident late Saturday near Itikyala in Luxettipet mandal, Mancherial district.

Shankar, 38, a resident of Rampur in Devapur and a loading worker at Devapur Cement Company, was returning from Dandepalli with his wife Sumitra and sons Sagar and Santosh when their bike was hit by a car. The collision occurred on the Kasipeta–Luxettipet stretch. Sagar died on the spot. Shankar succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital. Sumitra and Santosh, both severely injured, were shifted to Karimnagar for treatment.

Mancherial

Known for his role in the Adivasi movement, Shankar was vice-president of Tudum Debba and had campaigned for secure working conditions at the cement plant, including a 21-hour shift structure for loaders. He was also active in the BRS organisational work in Kasipeta mandal.

Former MLA Durgam Chinnaiah visited the hospital and described Shankar’s death as an irreparable loss to the tribal community and the BRS. Hundreds attended the funeral procession in Rampur village on Sunday.
