Hyderabad: BRS state general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar on Monday accused the Congress government of failing farmers by creating an artificial urea shortage in Telangana.
Kumar visited the Agriculture Department office in Kagaznagar town, where hundreds of farmers queued up for fertilizer. He alleged that officials were colluding with traders to divert stocks into the black market.
‘Black market driving prices up’
He said urea, priced at ₹280 per bag, was being sold for ₹600–₹800. “How can agriculture officials claim ignorance of this?” he asked. Kumar alleged that cooperative societies had issued slips months ago but were now refusing to honor them, forcing farmers to make repeated visits to offices.
Farmers forced to wait in long queues
The BRS leader said farmers were arriving as early as 5 a.m. to wait in lines for fertilizer. He demanded immediate distribution to all eligible farmers.
Blames Congress government
Kumar accused the Revanth Reddy-led government of mishandling the issue while giving contradictory statements. “BJP claims it is supplying urea, Congress says there is no shortage. Then where is the urea going? Telangana is the only state in the country facing this crisis,” he said.
He demanded that the state government take urgent steps to ensure urea supply and prevent black marketing.
