BJP Telangana chief questions Indiramma housing deposit, seeks houses for all eligible families

Hyderabad: BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao criticised the Congress government over the Indiramma housing deposit. He alleged that the government was collecting advance payments from beneficiaries even though the scheme targets homeless and economically weaker families.

In a post on X, Ramchander Rao claimed applicants in Hyderabad must pay ₹100 as an application fee and deposit ₹10,000 as earnest money (EMD). He questioned the need to collect the deposit from economically weaker families.

Indiramma housing deposit criticised over limited flats

Ramchander Rao claimed the application process could generate nearly ₹1,000 crore for the government. However, he questioned whether every applicant would ultimately receive a house.

According to the BJP leader, lakhs of eligible beneficiaries across 24 Assembly constituencies would compete for only 7,680 flats. Moreover, he compared the process with the previous BRS government’s sheep distribution scheme, under which beneficiaries allegedly paid deposits.

Indiramma housing deposit linked to pending housing projects

Ramchander Rao also claimed that several completed housing projects for low-income families in Hyderabad remained vacant.

He cited residential projects at Jawaharnagar, including multi-storey buildings. He alleged that authorities had not allotted many completed flats. The BJP leader also referred to Rajiv Swagruha projects at Sadbhavana Township, Pocharam, Abhiman Township in Jawaharnagar, Chandanagar and Sahira Township in Gajularamaram.

Furthermore, Ramchander Rao alleged that the previous BRS government had announced a CBCID investigation into the Rajiv Swagruha projects. He claimed the government never implemented the announcement.

The BJP leader urged the Congress government to provide houses to all eligible beneficiaries instead of limiting the benefit to a small number of applicants.
