Hyderabad: BJP MP Raghunandan Rao tore into the Congress, accusing it of hypocrisy over its newfound push for BC reservation.
Speaking to media outside Parliament in Delhi, Rao mocked Congress leaders for shedding “crocodile tears” over backward class quotas. He dared Rahul Gandhi to demonstrate real intent by enforcing strong BC reservation policies in Telangana, where Congress holds power.
“If Rahul Gandhi truly cares about BCs, let him give the Telangana Chief Minister’s post to a BC,” Rao said. He further demanded that the Congress name a BC leader as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Rao questioned the Congress’s record over its 55-year rule, asking whether a single BC had been made Prime Minister. He attacked the state cabinet composition, pointing out that the Reddy community, with a relatively small population share, had been allotted four ministerial berths.
“How did forward castes, who form less than 10 percent of the population, end up with seven ministerial posts?” he asked, calling on Rahul Gandhi to explain the rationale. He challenged the Congress to list how many BC leaders it had elevated to Chief Minister roles across states.
