HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has initiated steps to develop an IT Knowledge Hub across 450 acres in Puppalaguda on the outskirts of Hyderabad, aiming to generate employment for up to five lakh youth in the first phase.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, with Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy in attendance. The meeting, held on Thursday evening at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat, was also attended by Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and senior officials from the Industries and Revenue departments.
The ministers instructed officials to begin immediate preparations for establishing the IT Knowledge Hub. Officials informed the ministers that the area includes around 200 acres previously allocated to MLAs, MPs, IAS officers, Revenue officials, and cooperative housing societies, including the Special Police Mutual Cooperative Society. The Supreme Court had recently cancelled the land allocations to these societies, which was brought to the attention of the sub-committee.
Additionally, officials noted that approximately 250 acres adjacent to this land belong to the Industrial Corporation, bringing the total available land for development in the first phase to 450 acres.
The officials explained that the proposed IT Hub would significantly contribute to job creation and serve as a modern centre for emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). Ministers acknowledged the projection and emphasised that Telangana’s vision is to provide employment to five lakh youth through this initiative.
During the discussions, the ministers recalled that the foundation for Hyderabad’s IT journey was laid during the tenure of former Congress Chief Minister N. Janardhan Reddy with the inauguration of the Hitec City. This was followed by the development of the Knowledge Hub and later the Financial District. Hyderabad has remained an active participant in every global shift in the IT sector since then.
Now, as the world enters a new era of AI-driven transformation, the sub-committee stressed the need for Hyderabad to lead once again. Officials highlighted that Hyderabad has already secured a strong position in India’s economic landscape, and economists agree that its growth trajectory cannot be easily derailed.
