Political leaders, public back BC bandh across Telangana

Hyderabad: The BC bandh across Telangana on Saturday drew strong political and public support. Large rallies and commercial shutdowns marked the demand for 42% BC reservations.

Left parties—including CPI, CPM, CPI-ML, and MCPI(U)—joined hands with civil society groups and public intellectuals. Prominent figures such as Prof. Kodandaram and Vimalakka participated in demonstrations across several districts.

Shops stayed closed as protesters raised slogans for BC reservations in proportion to the population. They also demanded the immediate passage of the pending BC quota Bill.

Speakers at rallies accused the BJP of showing double standards—backing the bandh publicly while blocking BC representation in Parliament. They warned that any further delay in passing the Bill would spark wider protests across the state.

Demonstrators urged all political parties to move beyond symbolic gestures. They called for concrete legislative action to ensure social justice and political empowerment for the Backward Classes.
