Hyderabad: The Centre has approved construction of 18,213 houses under PMAY-U 2.0 in 118 urban areas of Telangana. As a result, housing programmes in towns across the State will receive a major boost.
Managing Director of the Telangana Housing Corporation V. P. Gautam said the Union government cleared the State’s proposal to build houses with financial assistance of ₹5 lakh per unit.
Moreover, he said the approval came during the meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban held in New Delhi.
PMAY-U 2.0 housing projects approved for Telangana
Under PMAY-U 2.0, the State proposed construction of 18,213 houses across 118 urban areas.
Additionally, the total estimated cost of the project stands at ₹910.65 crore.
Of this amount, the Centre will contribute ₹273.20 crore. Meanwhile, the State government will provide ₹637.45 crore.
Officials said the scheme aims to provide permanent housing for eligible urban poor families.
Therefore, each beneficiary will receive financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for house construction.
The Centre has also agreed to release ₹273.20 crore as its share for implementing the housing projects.
Moreover, V. P. Gautam said the decision will help accelerate housing construction in urban areas.
He added that the approval will also support the implementation of Indiramma housing initiatives in towns across Telangana.
