Hyderabad: The phone tapping case SIT, constituted by the Telangana government after nearly 21 months, began its investigation under the supervision of Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar on Saturday.
The nine-member SIT, formed to probe the illegal phone tapping case, functioned under Sajjanar’s direct oversight. With the Supreme Court granting time until the 26th of this month for custodial interrogation of prime accused Prabhakar Rao, Sajjanar held an initial meeting with the newly appointed SIT members at Jubilee Hills Police Station.
During the meeting, officers discussed where to begin the investigation and how to structure the questioning. Since Vijay Kumar, currently West Zone DCP, is part of the SIT, officials relied on his detailed knowledge of the case. He had registered the FIR during his earlier tenure.

Later, police shifted Prabhakar Rao, former SIB chief, from Jubilee Hills to the Central Crime Station office. Subsequently, officers brought him back to Jubilee Hills police station for questioning. As part of the phone tapping case SIT probe, officers questioned him in a special room.
Investigators focused on alleged phone tapping of opposition leaders, businesspersons, journalists and judges during the previous BRS government. They also questioned him on who issued orders to tap phones in violation of the Telegraph Act provisions.
SIT officials further questioned Prabhakar Rao on the destruction of crucial evidence after the case registration. They sought details about hard disks, electronic data, phones, laptops and iCloud passwords linked to the alleged illegal surveillance.
