Hyderabad: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will meet the finance ministers of all states in New Delhi today as part of consultations for the Union Budget 2026–27.
The Centre has scheduled the pre-Budget meeting as a key step in the budget preparation process. During the meeting, state governments will present their financial concerns, demands, and suggestions.
States will raise issues related to fiscal limits, pending central grants, GST share, and funding for development projects. They will also seek higher allocations for welfare and infrastructure works.
States to present demands ahead of Union Budget
The Union government will review the suggestions received from the states and consider them while finalising the Budget. Officials said the meeting helped bridge gaps between central priorities and state needs.
Meanwhile, Parliament will begin the Budget Session on January 28 with an address by President Droupadi Murmu. The government will table the Economic Survey on January 29.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2026–27 on February 1. The upcoming Budget will mark her ninth consecutive presentation in Parliament.
