Komatireddy launches Nalgonda urban PHC facility

Hyderabad: Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy inaugurated the Nalgonda urban PHC at Manyam Chelka on Wednesday to strengthen primary healthcare services.

The facility cost ₹1.91 crore and opened during Health Week under the Praja Palana–Pragati Pranalika programme. As a result, the Minister said the Nalgonda urban PHC would help reduce patient load at the Government General Hospital, which has seen rising footfall.

He added that the centre received ₹50 lakh support from Prateek Foundation along with government funding. Consequently, the facility now includes infrastructure, equipment, and staff to deliver primary care.

Further, the Minister directed doctors to provide comprehensive services and conduct basic diagnostic tests. He also instructed them to ensure timely referrals to higher medical centres. In addition, he asked doctors to prioritise elderly patients, pregnant women, and vulnerable groups in nearby areas.

Meanwhile, he announced plans to establish an eye hospital on three acres in partnership with Prateek Foundation and LV Prasad Eye Institute. This initiative aims to expand specialised treatment facilities in the district.

To address medicine shortages, he said the government introduced a system to supply essential drugs through a designated private outlet based on prescriptions. Moreover, officials will explore providing meals to patients visiting the centre with support from Akshaya Foundation.

On infrastructure, the Minister said Nalgonda, now a municipal corporation, is receiving upgrades. For instance, authorities are improving CC roads, drainage, drinking water supply, and healthcare services. He added that work to develop and expand the Manyam Chelka junction is underway.

Burri Chaitanya Srinivas Reddy said the Nalgonda urban PHC will benefit residents of Manyam Chelka and surrounding wards. Similarly, Shankar Naik said the step reflects continued efforts to strengthen public healthcare in the state.
