Hyderabad: The MGNREGA Bachao Yatra entered its second day in Hyderabad on Sunday. The District Congress Committee (DCC) led a protest march through the Bahadurpura route. This yatra is part of a broader campaign by the Congress. Specifically, it aims to resist the Union Government’s alleged weakening of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
Sunday’s rally began at Gandhi Statue Cross Road and concluded at Bahadurpura Cross Road, covering Doodhwali Gali, Chandulal Baradari, Ramnaspura, and Kishan Bagh. Hyderabad DCC President Syed Khalid Saifullah led the march.

Speaking at the event, Syed Khalid Saifullah said the BJP-led Centre is undermining MGNREGA by centralising control, replacing Gram Panchayats with contractors, and shifting the wage burden onto states. “The poorest are losing their right to work, dignity, and security,” he said.
Congress leaders Rajesh Kumar Pulipati, B. Nagesh, Mohammed Mujeebullah Shareef, Shaik Akbar, K. Ravi Raj, Uzma Shaker, and others joined the protest. The rally drew strong public support across key South Hyderabad constituencies.
The Hyderabad leg of the yatra will continue through January 26, covering Bahadurpura, Chandrayangutta, Malakpet, Charminar, and Yakutpura. The Congress has urged citizens to resist what it calls an anti-poor overhaul of the MGNREGA framework and support decentralised planning and fair wages.
