Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau caught a Child Development Project Officer allegedly accepting Rs.63,000 in a Metpally CDPO bribe case. The ACB identified the officer as Daroju Padma, CDPO, Metpally, Jagtial district.
The ACB Karimnagar Unit conducted the trap on September 26. According to the agency, Padma allegedly demanded the money from a complainant for showing official favour. The alleged favour involved avoiding adverse remarks during inspections of Anganwadi centres under Metpally Urban Mandal.
Metpally CDPO bribe involved 21 Anganwadi centres
According to the ACB, the officer allegedly demanded Rs.1,000 per month from each of 21 Anganwadi centres. The demand covered three months, taking the alleged bribe amount to Rs.63,000.
During the trap, Padma allegedly accepted Rs.63,000 directly from the complainant outside her office premises. ACB officials recovered the tainted amount from her possession. The agency alleged that the officer had misused her official position to seek illegal gratification for official favour.
The ACB said Padma was being arrested and produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Karimnagar. The agency said the case remained under investigation. Officials withheld the complainant’s details for security reasons.
The ACB also asked people to report demands for bribes by public servants through its toll-free number, 1064. It said complainants could also contact the agency through its social media channels and WhatsApp number 9440446106.
