Hyderabad: A leopard skin seized during transportation led to a case against six people in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Cherla police detained the suspects near Gannavaram Cross Road on Tuesday afternoon.
Police later handed the detained people over to forest department officials. The Forest Range Officer disclosed details of the incident and the subsequent action.
According to the officer, officials booked all six under the Wildlife Protection Act. They were subsequently produced before a court in connection with the case.
The officials also seized leopard claws along with the leopard skin. The recovery formed part of the material taken from the accused during the action.
The incident occurred within Cherla mandal limits. Police first detained the people while they were allegedly transporting the leopard skin near Gannavaram Cross Road.
Leopard skin seized as five accused identified
Forest officials identified five of the people detained in the case. They included Koram Narayana from Kurnapalli village in Cherla mandal.
The officials also identified Podiyam Devender and Podiyam Santosh from Kishtarampadu village. Attam Sai Kiran from Bestakothuru village was another person named in the case.
The fifth identified person was Jilukara Radhakrishna from Mangapet in Mulugu district. Officials said details of the sixth person were yet to be established.
The Forest Range Officer said the six people faced action under the Wildlife Protection Act. The authorities also presented the accused before the court after registering the case.
