KTR warns Congress against harassing sarpanches, launches BRS legal cells

Hyderabad: BRS working president and Sircilla MLA K.T. Rama Rao on Monday warned that his party would not tolerate any harassment of newly elected sarpanches and announced the formation of legal support cells in every district to defend them.

Addressing a felicitation event for victorious BRS-backed sarpanches in Rajanna Sircilla district, KTR said the Congress government was already facing serious public resentment, just two years into power. He criticised Congress MLAs and ministers for allegedly using threats, kidnappings, and violence during the panchayat elections, citing incidents in Suryapet and Tipperthi as examples.

Legal support for sarpanches, sharp criticism of Congress rule

KTR assured that any attempt to suspend or pressure elected sarpanches would meet immediate legal resistance. “If any officer or ruling party leader threatens to suspend or trouble you, don’t wait a moment. Contact the party. Our legal team will support you within 30 minutes. We will fight for your rights in court,” he said.

KTR warns Congress sarpanches

He reiterated that no one can legally block the constitutionally mandated Finance Commission funds that must reach villages, and pledged that BRS would ensure those funds are secured.

KTR accused the Congress of failing to deliver on key promises such as Rythu Bandhu payments, farm loan waivers, pensions, and the gold scheme for women. He said the BRS-backed candidates winning 40–70 percent of sarpanch seats across districts reflected public dissatisfaction with the current government.

He credited former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao’s leadership for Telangana winning 30% of all national awards for best gram panchayats, despite having just 3% of India’s population. KTR cited Aepur village in Suryapet district as an example, which won national recognition for its facilities including check dams, crematorium, and eco-parks.

Calling on sarpanches to use their positions not as symbolic titles but as tools for grassroots development, he urged them to deliver results that people will remember five years from now. “What we do will define how history remembers us,” he said.

KTR also announced that special workshops will soon be held for elected sarpanches, MPTCs, and ZPTCs to educate them on Panchayat Raj laws, duties, and rights. He called on party cadres to work hard and ensure a strong BRS showing in the upcoming election phases.
