Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has called on party cadre to organise Vijay Diwas celebrations on December 9 across Telangana to commemorate the historic 2009 announcement of the Statehood process.
December 9 marks Statehood breakthrough
Addressing BRS leaders, MLAs, MLCs, and district presidents via teleconference, KTR recalled that December 9 marked the UPA government’s response to K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s 11-day fast, when the Centre initiated the process to carve out Telangana from united Andhra Pradesh.
He urged party workers to treat the day as a symbolic victory in Telangana’s decades-long struggle for statehood. Given ongoing local body elections and logistical constraints, KTR advised that celebrations be held at constituency headquarters instead of individual villages.
Celebrations to include floral tributes, fruit distribution
KTR outlined a set of planned activities to mark the occasion. These include Palabhishekam at Telangana Thalli statues, floral tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and distribution of fruits to patients in government hospitals. Party offices and main junctions will release pink balloons to symbolise the moment of victory.
Former minister and MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav will oversee special programmes at NIMS Hospital where KCR carried out his fast—and Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. Fruit distribution events will also be part of the day’s agenda at these venues.
